AJ Brown, CLEM
Albert (AJ) Brown Jr was appointed Director of Emergency Management for Winston County on March 8th, 2021. Director Brown has earned his County Level Emergency Manager certification through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. Director Brown also servers as the Homeland Security point of contact for Winston County. Director Brown gladly assists all of the public safety professionals, first responders and nonprofit organizations in all levels of government in a county wide coordination of all hazard preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.
Director Brown started in the fire service in 2006 with the Delmar Vol Fire dept. He received EMT-Basic certification in June of 2008. In 2010 he completed the Volunteer Firefighting and Hazmat Awareness and Operations training. He also joined and served on the Haleyville Rescue Squad from 2009 to 2021. While there he earned his Scuba Diving certification.
Director Brown started to as a Reserve Deputy in 2014 with the Winston County Sheriff Office under the direction of Chief Deputy Jimmy Madison. He was then hired fulltime as a jailer in February 2015. In 2018 he began to dispatch for the Winston County Sheriff Office after the passing of long-time dispatcher Lynn Vickery.
Director Brown moved to the Haleyville Police Department in July 2019 as dispatcher. In late 2019 he started working with the Colbert County 911 office as a dispatcher. While there he received Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training. In November 2020 Director Brown attended and earned his Public Safety Telecommunicator. Director Brown earned his Fire Instructor 1 in March of 2021.
Through out his life from an early age Director Brown has been involved in many aspects of Emergency Management from being boots on the ground to serving in supervisory positions. He looks forward to continuing this and working with all of the departments in the county for the betterment of the county and the citizens here.
